The Spa Life team was doing what we love best again… going to a spa! This time, we selected the Stillness Manor and Spa in Tokai, Cape Town and right now, this is our favourite spa! Read on further to find out why we were so impressed!
Stillness Manor is set on rolling green laws with the beautiful Constantia mountains as a backdrop, and the perfect positioning that even allows for a bit of a sea view! The Manor House is an old Cape Dutch house and the gorgeous location really evokes a feeling of calm and relaxation – it definitely lives up to its name!
Either the entire Spa Life Team was just having a slow morning, or the Stillness Manor could improve their signage a little bit. We found the Stillness Manor and Spa from the road quite easily, but once we made it inside the gates, we were a bit unsure of where to go and confess that we may have been seen traipsing across the lawn and negotiating some flower beds to find the entrance.
We were greeted by a receptionist and asked to complete forms whilst sitting on lovely white couches in the reception area. After having an opportunity to select our nail polish colours, we were welcomed by our therapists (some but not all introduced themselves) but they were all lovely and polite and made us feel very welcome, so we certainly won’t be holding that against them!
We were taken to our treatments rooms where we could get changed and ready for our treatments. There are also change rooms downstairs and the steam room and sauna lead off a passage away from the separate male and female change rooms. As an extra touch, the change rooms also have showers and toilets, as well as complimentary Theravine products to make use of in the shower should you so choose.
Stillness Manor provides comfy gowns and slippers so you can lounge around and forget the world outside.
The spa is elegant and refined with a gorgeous heated indoor pool, an inviting outdoor pool, a nicely-equipped gym, steam room and sauna (although when we visited the steam room was undergoing maintenance).
Having had a squiz at the website at the time of making our reservation, we can now confirm that the website does not do the spa justice. It looks pretty and crown-worthy on the website, but we were very pleasantly surprised when visiting Stillness Manor.
Everything about this spa says sophistication and relaxation. The treatment rooms are located on the second floor, overlooking the sizable heated indoor pool. With large cottage pane windows, white walls and views for Africa, you will be forgiven for forgetting that you are in fact just a few hundred metres from the infamous Pollsmoor Prison, but don’t worry about security at this spa, with high walls and gates and lockers in the change room, you can relax and enjoy your treatment and take in all that Stillness Manor has to offer (and that is a lot!).
The Spa Life team booked pedicures and a 45 minute hot stone massage. The treatment rooms are spacious and include a large spa bath and shower, candles and good lighting, with an option to open the doors on to a courtyard to enjoy the fresh mountain breeze. Once our treatments were finished, we were offered delicious strawberry water and encouraged to make use of the spa’s facilities. Although we weren’t quite in the mood for a swim, no matter how inviting the heated pool was, we found ourselves sunning on the pool loungers beside the pool. The pool lounge area has large windows and a glass ceiling so you are protected from the Cape Doctor (the South Easter wind) whilst still being able to soak up some sun.
The Princess Factor
Given the facilities available at this spa, as well as the great spa staff and beautiful location, we felt the prices were reasonable and good value for money. The spa lives up to its name as a home of peace and stillness and encourages you to forget your worries and just rejuvenate for a few hours.
Taking all of this into account, we are delighted to award the Stillness Manor and Spa and phenomenal 4 and a half crowns, our highest score to date! We had such a wonderful experience at Stillness Manor, that we cannot wait to return to this hidden gem of a spa!
