An elegant and glamorous spa in the heart of Sandton, with all the luxury that one would expect of a spa situated in the Michelangelo Towers.
Unless you know the Michelangelo Towers very well, add an extra 10 minutes to your allotted arrival time to let you actually find the spa. It feels at times that you are looking for a Harry Potter-style mystery location, considering the number of lifts and escalators required in order to find the spa, but once you have found it, you won’t be disappointed.
With a stately entrance and many beautiful statues and renaissance-style pieces, you are immediately transported into a different era. That being said, the receptionists were either both having really bad days or are just prefer to have a somewhat standoff-ish attitude, and this is one of the few areas where this spa lost some points.
As far as the therapists are concerned, only one of the two therapists introduced herself to The Spa Life team, which considering that that individual is about to see you half-naked, it really would be preferred to at least know their name.
This spa has a beautiful heated indoor pool, a larger unheated outdoor pool, complete with pool loungers and an outside shower, a steam room and swiss shower in the ladies bathroom (and a sauna available to men only). The use of these amenities is free when you book any treatment at the spa. The Spa Life enjoyed the steam room, swiss shower and indoor heated pool with much delight! In addition the spa also has a rasul chamber.
We were provided with comfy gowns and some rather nice black slip-slop style (ie open-toed) slippers, which The Spa Life team may or may not have taken home with them (the slippers that is, not the gowns).
We had booked the Renaissance Spa’s Top to Toe package (2 hours), which comprises a 30 minute back, neck and shoulder massage, an express manicure, an express pedicure and an express facial.

- Too much noise being made by therapists cleaning up during the treatment
- Therapist going in and out of the treatment room was disturbing
- Unfriendly receptionists
- Disappointing express pedicure for one of the team
The Princess Factor
The Renaissance Spa scores a whopping 4 crowns on the princess scale. We felt like royalty although we would have liked to throw in an “off with her head” on one or two occasions! This spa is doing almost every thing right and their prices, although high, are commensurate with the spa and its facilities.
Would we revisit?
Most likely, yes. The spa has an extensive treatment menu that we would be keen to review in future. If you want to visit Renaissance Spa, their contact details and prices are available here.
