Although it is already Spring time in Joburg, it was a rather cold and miserable day when The Spa Life Team visited Misty Hill’s Spa in the Country and we were very pleasantly surprised!
You’ll find this spa nestled on Misty Hills Country Estate, in the Muldersdrift “Wedding Mile”. The estate is often used for conferences and events and is home to the rather famous Carnivore restaurant. With lots of thatch roofing and stone walls, you will easily forget that you are just 30 minutes outside of bustling Sandton.
As a quick aside if you drive a car with low ground clearance, be careful if you intend to drive right up to the spa parking – perhaps rather park in one of the main areas and walk to the spa.
We were warmly welcomed into the spa and shown into a lovely cozy sitting room with a fire and refreshments and even some little muffins. We completed our forms and were given an opportunity to have something to drink before being escorted to our treatment room.
Although not all the therapists introduced themselves, we nevertheless felt very welcome and comfortable at this spa – there is a relaxing ambience.
The Spa in the Country is lovely with beautiful lawns and open spaces. Even though it was rather chilly outside, we were kept warm with plenty of heaters and blankets. The spa has a gorgeous indoor pool area with a sauna and steam room. The pool area looks like a holiday and all you need is a cocktail and a good book (although it would be so much more divine if the pool were heated too). The sauna and steam room are fairly basic and unisex.
The Spa provides comfy toweling gowns, but states that you need to bring your own slippers or slops (flip-flops). We found this a little peculiar and this was one of the few areas where the spa lost some points in terms of the “Princess Factor”.
One other point where we felt the spa could improve is with respect to maintenance and upkeep. The walls are begging for a fresh coat of paint and the lighting in the treatment rooms is rather atrocious, but apart from those small things, we had a glorious day and thoroughly enjoyed our treatments.
The Spa Life Team enjoyed a pedicure, a back, neck and shoulder massage and an express facial. All the treatments were wonderful. For the full write-up on our treatments, click here.
We had no major “negative points” and would highlight the following areas where the spa could improve –
- tired looking walls
- prettier lighting with dimmer switches needed in treatment rooms
- no slippers provided (B.Y.O.Slippers)
- fresh towels to be placed over pillows
The Princess Factor
We had a truly tranquil time at the Spa in the Country and as such award this spa a brilliant 4 crowns – we felt like royalty! The staff members and therapists were all so friendly and welcoming that we could not feel anything but at home and pampered!
Would we revisit?
Absolutely! When can we go again?! This spa is impressive and a real treat! The prices are not exorbitant and given the service received, we are surprised they aren’t higher. Definitely worth a ride on a bumpy road to get to this spa!
